Men’s Track and Field Wins Four Events At Clemson Relays On Saturday

CLEMSON, SC — The Clemson men’s track and field team captured four event titles at the Clemson Relay’s second day of action on Saturday, while Danny Alge recorded an NCAA regionally qualifying mark with a personal best in the hammer throw. Alge was one of seven student-athletes in five events to set qualifying marks.

Alge’s mark of 195’2.5″ in the hammer throw was also the best throw of the day to earn him a first-place finish in the event. Tiger freshman Sean Reilly, Brian Knapp and Clay Pendleton placed first in the 4x1500m relay, posting a time of 16:24.68. The Tiger distance medley relay team also claimed a win on Saturday, posting a time of 10:18.88 in the event.

The 4x100m relay team of Roy Cheney, Padgett, Lydell Perry placed second in the event with a time of 41.16. Cheney also earned a fifth-place finish in the 110m hurdles after posting a time of 14.59. In the 400m hurdles, Andrew Porter led the way for Clemson with a third-place finish after running a time of 53.31. Rashad Gardner trailed him by just .42 seconds for fourth place, and Cheney’s time of 53.90 in the event placed in fifth.

In the 100m, Brown, George Fields and Feathers ran times of 11.20, 11.53 and 12.00, respectively, for Clemson. Gardner and Mike Feathers also competed in the 110m hurdles, recording times of 15.37 and 15.58, respectively. The 4x400m relay team recorded a time of 3:18.28, but its place is yet to be determined due to technical difficulties in the remaining heats of the race. In the discus, Alge posted a mark of 45.59m (149’7″) that ranked sixth.

The team will be back in action next weekend as some Tigers will compete at the Georgia Tech Invitational in Atlanta, GA and others will travel to Palo Alto, CA for the Stanford Invitational. Both meets will be held on Saturday, Apr. 1.
