EUGENE, Ore. – The Clemson men’s track and field team opened competition at the NCAA Outdoor Championships Wednesday at the University of Oregon’s Hayward Field. Andy Giesler and Jacey Harper were the only Tigers to compete on the first day of the Championships.
Giesler, a senior from Loveland, OH, is currently in 10th place in the decathlon with 3753 points. He began his day with a personal record of 11.20 in the 100m dash. Giesler posted a mark of 6.69m (21’11 ˝”) in the long jump, and recorded a mark of 13.81m (45’3 ľ”) in the shot put. He cleared 1.88m (6’2″) in the high jump, then closed his first day of competition with a time of 50.72 in the 400m.
Harper, a sophomore from Edinburgh, Trinidad, tied his personal best in the 200m dash with a time of 20.71, but failed to qualify for the finals of the event.
Giesler will compete in the second and final day of competition in the decathlon on Thursday, beginning at noon with the 110m hurdles. Ato Modibo is scheduled to compete in the semifinals of the 400m Thursday at 5:20 p.m., while Malcolm Reynolds will compete in the high jump finals at 4:45 p.m. Todd Matthews and Sultan Tucker will also compete on Thursday in the trials of the 110m hurdles, slated to begin at 4:50 p.m.
