Men’s Tennis Edged By Virginia, 4-3, In ACC Championship

RALEIGH, N.C. – Second-seeded Virginia defeated fifth-seeded Clemson 4-3 in the championship match of the 2004 Atlantic Coast Conference Men’s Tennis Championship at the Millbrook Exchange Tennis Center in Raleigh, N.C.

Virginia won the doubles point with victories from Rizza/Meythaler at No. 1 and Stewart/Cohen at No. 2, before claiming singles wins at No. 1, No. 3 and No. 6. Virginia’s Doug Stewart, Marko Miklo and Darrin Cohen all earned singles decisions. Miklo’s win cliniched the victory for the Cavaliers, marking the first ACC Men’s Championship for Virginia in conference tournament history.

The Cavaliers improve their record to 22-3, while Clemson drops to 23-11. Virginia’s Marko Miklo was named the ACC Tournament MVP.
