CLEMSON, S.C. — The University of Virginia men’s tennis team ended its spring break trip this afternoon on a down note losing to Clemson 5-2 at the Hoke Sloan Tennis Center in Clemson, S.C. The loss ended the Cavaliers’ three-match winning streak and dropped their record to 9-4 (1-1 in the ACC). Clemson improved to 4-8 overall and 1-0 in the ACC.
The Cavaliers won just one of three doubles matches and lost the doubles point to open the scoring. The freshmen tandem of Huntley Montgomery and Brian Vahaly posted their fourth consecutive win in defeating Brad Emendorfer and Darren Knight 9-7 at #2 for UVa’s lone doubles win.
Virginia got singles wins from Vahaly at #2 and Hyon Yoo at #4. Vahaly moved to the #2 position with the return of Bear Schofield to the line-up and defeated Pablo Bellagamba 6-0, 6-1 for his fifth consecutive win. Yoo won his third straight match by beating Brad Emendorfer 4-6, 6-2, 6-4.
John Winter had his 11-match winning streak snapped by Darren Knight. After losing the first set 7-5, Knight rallied to win the last two 6-3, 7-5 for the win.
