Men’s Tennis Beats Miami

CLEMSON, S.C. — The Clemson men’s tennis team defeated #18 Miami 4-3 on Friday afternoon at the Clemson Indoor Tennis Facility. With the match tied at 3-3, Eric Cohn came from behind in the second set to defeat Joel Berman 6-4, 7-6 and clinch the win for the Tigers. With the win Clemson improved to 15-15 on the year while Miami fell to 15-4.

Clemson won the doubles point by winning two out of the three matches. At the number-one position, Clemson’s 15th-ranked duo of Josh Goffi and Darren Knight defeated 40th-ranked Tomas Smid and Peter Hoffman by a score of 8-6. Also winning for the Tigers was the 49th-ranked team of Tomasz Boniecki and Marko Gojanovic who were playing number-two.

In singles, the two teams split the six matches. At number-one, Clemson’s 42nd- ranked Goffi defeated Tomas Smid 7-6, 7-6. At number-two, 53rd-ranked Boniecki beat Hoffman 6-3, 6-2. Eric Cohn’s win over Berman at number-six was the third singles victory for the Tigers.

Clemson’s next match will be on Sunday in Raleigh against N.C. State. With a win over the Wolfpack, Clemson Head Coach Chuck Kriese can become the ACC’s winningest coach in terms of total ACC wins.
