Clemson, SC – The Clemson Men’s Swimming and Diving team has let loose this year and it has translated into wins. The Tigers are 9-3 (4-3 ACC) going into the ACC Championships in Chapel Hill, NC. The nine wins are the most that the Tigers have recorded since the 2003-04 season when they were 13-2-1. This is also the first year since 03-04 that Clemson has been above .500 in the ACC regular season.
Clemson will start the swimming portion Wednesday night as they will compete in the 800 freestyle relay and the 200 medley relay. The Tigers finished third with a school record in the 200 medley last season. Leading Clemson into the meet will be Joel Johnson and Mark Vahle, as they each swam to a silver medal in the 100 backstroke and 50 freestyle, respectively. Both received All-ACC honors for their effort. Attila Ruszka will also play a big role if Clemson hopes to have any success. Ruszka was the only Tiger to be named ACC Performer-of-the-Week this season, an honor he received for his performance against South Carolina.
The Tigers were last at Koury Natatorium for the ACC Championships in 2002-03 when they finished sixth with 339 points. The preliminary session will start at 11 a.m. each day, and the finals session will begin at 7 p.m. All four finals sessions will be broadcast live on the internet via ACC Select and can be viewed by selecting the link below.
