Men’s Soccer Falls To No. 9 Maryland, 2-1

CLEMSON, S.C. – The 9th-ranked Maryland Terrapins defeated the Clemson Tigers 2-1 tonight October 30 in intercollegiate men’s soccer action at Historic Riggs Field.

Clemson drops to 8-7-2 overall and 1-2-2 in the ACC. Maryland improves its record to 13-4 overall (4-2, ACC).

The Tigers scored the first goal of the match at the 17:30 mark in the first half. After senior Mike Potempa’s shot hit the crossbar, Tiger senior Bob Cavanagh collected the ball and passed to sophomore Ian Fuller who put the ball in the roof of the net for his fifth goal of the season.

The Terrapins answered quickly though, when Jason Cropley scored the first of his two goals. At the 30:44 mark, Cropley broke behind the Clemson defense and slipped the ball past Tiger keeper Marc Paisant. Cropley scored the game-winner with just under eight minutes to go in the game when he picked up a loose ball in the box and shot it into the net from 10 yards out.

Clemson will be in action again this Sunday November 7, as they finish their regular season home schedule against Waake Forest with the start time set for 2:00 p.m..
