Men’s Cross Country to Host Clemson Invitational

Sept. 8, 2006

Clemson will play host to the Clemson Cross Country Invitational this Saturday near the track & field facilities. The men’s team from Clemson will be competing, while the women will be in Charlottesville, VA for the Lou Onesty Invitational. Clemson is one of five men’s teams scheduled to compete Saturday, while five women’s teams will also be competing. The men’s 8K event will get underway at 9:15 AM.

The Tigers are four-time defending champions of the event, including 2005 when Clemson totaled 43 points for the victory. Itay Magidi, a senior on the team, won the individual championship two years ago when Clemson had a record 17-point performance en route to the team title.

Other returning letterwinners from 2005 on the team this season are Sean Reilly, Eric Soder.

Brian Soder finished sixth in this event a year ago and was one of Clemson’s most consistent performers in 2005. He is joined by his brother, Eric, who scored in four events for the Tigers as well. Reilly has earned all-state honors the past two seasons in cross country, while Bryfczynski and Iverson return as sophomores expected to be among the frontrunners for the team.

Teams slated to compete Saturday against the Tigers will be Gardner-Webb, Piedmont College, South Carolina State, and Western Carolina. Clemson’s next event following this weekend will be at the Louisville Classic on September 30.
