Men’s Basketball Steps out of ACC for Win

CLEMSON, S.C. (AP) – Greg Buckner had 21 points to lead four Tigers indouble figures as Clemson defeated Western Carolina 102-67 in a nonconferencegame Wednesday night.

With the Catamounts (11-12) trailing 59-49 midway through the second half,Clemson (14-10) went on a 26-8 run to pull away.

The Tigers, who shot 58 percent from the field, had five dunks during onesix-minute span.

Clemson outrebounded the smaller Catamounts 39-27, and Tony Christie talliedfive steals among Western Carolina’s 22 turnovers.

Harold Jamison tied a career high with 20 points, Johnny Miller had 16, andVincent Whitt added 10. The Catamounts were led by Joel Fleming with 16 points.

Clemson was up 45-33 at the half.

The Catamounts struggled early against the Tigers’ aggressive man-to-mandefense. Western Carolina was held to one field goal in a six-minute span asthe Tigers built a 27-14 lead 12 minutes into the game.
