Men’s Basketball Opens Play With Exhibition

Oct. 30, 2001

CLEMSON, SC – The Clemson men’s basketball team will open exhibition play Wednesday when it will play host to Nike Elite at 7:00 PM at Littlejohn Coliseum.

Junior captain Edward Scott returns to led the Tigers in 2001-02 after starting 30 games and playing exactly 1,000 minutes a year ago. He averaged 7.3 points and 4.2 assists per game as a sophomore. Sophomores Tony Stockman and Chris Hobbs, who were both named to the All-ACC freshman team a year ago, also return. Stockman is the leading returning scorer after averaging 12.0 points last year. It was the best average in 2000-01 by a freshman. Hobbs led the Tigers in rebounding a year ago with 6.3 rebounds per game. That figure was also best in the ACC by a freshman.

Clemson is expected to start Scott and Stockman at the two guard spots, Hobbs and senior Jamar McKnight at the two forward positions and junior Ray Henderson at center.

Former Florida Gator Teddy Dupay plays for Nike Elite, which will also be playing its first game of a 10-game collegiate exhibition tour. Dupay played in the 2000 NCAA National Championship game for the Gators.

The Tigers will have one more preseason exhibition game on Monday, Nov. 12 when they will host the E.A. Sports Central All-Stars at 7:00 PM. Clemson will open the season Nov. 17-20 at the Paradise Jam in the Virgin Islands. The Tigers’ home opener is Nov. 24 against Wofford at 7:00 PM.

Admission to both exhibition games is free. Gates at all four corners of Littlejohn Coliseum will be open despite construction.
