Mayorova, Buyckx/DeSpain Earn Place in Final Rankings

CLEMSON, S.C. — Sophomore Cristina Mayorova and the doubles pair of Samantha Buyckx and Ali DeSpain each earned a spot on the final ITA rankings of the 2022 season. Mayorova was tabbed as the No. 103 singles player in the nation, while Buyckx and DeSpain slot into the No. 34 spot on the doubles list.

Mayorova battled for the Tigers all year, primarily from the No. 1 singles court. Over the course of the spring season she earned four conference wins and two against ranked opponents.

The Tigers’ No. 1 doubles pair was a force throughout the 2022 campaign, marching its way to a 10-4 record in dual matches, including a 6-3 ACC record. They are the first Tiger pair to be in the final rankings since Fernanda Navarro and Marie Leduc in 2019.

Buyckx and DeSpain picked up three ranked wins, and had the No. 1 pair in the country in North Carolina’s Fiona Crawley and Elizabeth Scotty on the ropes in Chapel Hill, leading the match 5-4 before it was abandoned. The pair did complete a convincing 6-1 victory over Virginia’s Emma Navarro and Hibah Shikh, a duo that finished the season ranked fourth in the nation.
