Clemson Volleyball Visits Kennesaw State for KSU Challenge

CLEMSON, S.C. – The Clemson Volleyball program will travel to Kennesaw, Ga. to take on Kennesaw State and Santa Clara in the Kennesaw State Challenge. Friday’s match-up against KSU is set for 7 p.m. and will stream on ESPN+. The Tigers will finish the competition on Saturday against Santa Clara with a 1 p.m. scheduled start.

Kennesaw State will host their sixth annual Griffin’s Game against the Tigers this year. In support of this great cause, the Tigers will be wearing “Griffin Pride” shirts alongside the Owls before the match.

The Tigers and Owls haven’t played each other since 2019 when the Tigers secured a 3-1 victory. On the other end, this will be Clemson and Santa Clara’s first meeting between the two programs. The Broncos are coming into the contest 1-4 with a recent loss against UC Davis, while KSU is on a 3-game winning streak with their latest victory over Alabama at home.

Clemson enters the challenge 3-2 after a recent 3-0 sweep Sunday against Gardner-Webb. Graduate transfer Kaylee Martin continues to set the offensive tone for the Tigers with a team-high .339 hitting percentage and an average of 3.18 kills per set, followed by sophomore Camryn Hannah’s 2.88 kills per set. While on the defensive end, Freshman Devan Taylor maintains her dominance on the court by securing 61 digs this season.

The Kennesaw State Challenge is open to the public with tickets available for purchase.

Griffin’s Game, A Brief History

Named in honor of Head Coach Keith Schunzel and volunteer assistant Briana Schunzel’s son, Griffin, who was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia on March 25, 2015.

During Griffin’s treatment, the Schunzels received an overwhelming amount of support from family, friends, and the Kennesaw State community. They, along with the volleyball program and the KSU athletic department, wanted to be able to give that same level of support to a local family dealing with the same struggle.

For six years now the KSU volleyball team has chosen a local family to honor and support in order to help with their expenses in their fight against childhood cancer. This year, Griffin’s game will honor 14-year-old Elijah Ramirez.
