COLLEGE PARK, MD – Maryland defeated Clemson 5-2 in a men’s Atlantic Coast Conference tennis match at College Park Maryland Friday.
With the win, Maryland improves to 10-7 overall, and 2-5 in league play. Clemson falls to 14-7 overall and 1-5 in the ACC. Maryland is ranked 44th nationally, while the Tigers are ranked 48th.
John Collins clinched victory for Maryland at number-three singles by defeating Clemson’s Gerardo Meza 7-6, 6-2.
Clemson won at the first two singles positions. The Tigers’ Derek DiFazio defeated #86 Maros Horny of Maryland, 5-7, 6-4, 6-4. At number-two singles, Clemson’s Yannick Maden defeated Sergio Wyss 6-2, 6-2.
“Today we played a tenacious Maryland team,” said Clemson Head Coach Derek DiFazio and Yannick Maden at number-one and number-two singles continue to play at a high level. Derek defeated the # 86 ranked player in the ITA rankings today with consistency from all parts of the court. Yannick’s steady pressure from the backcourt was impressive today. We will put this tough loss behind us and start to prepare for Boston College on Sunday,” said McCuen.
Clemson will play at Boston College on Sunday afternoon at 12:00 p.m. in the Tigers’ next action.
