Mamona Breaks Portugal’s Under-23 Record in Triple Jump

June 15, 2009

Clemson junior Patricia Mamona qualified for the U23 European Track & Field Championships last week with a personal best mark of 44’10.25″ in the triple jump in her home country of Portugal. In the process, she established an under-23 Portuguese record. In fact, her mark is just 10 centimeters shy of the overall Portuguese record for the women’s triple jump.

Mamona, the 2008 Portuguese champion in the triple jump, is coming off a red-shirted outdoor season with the Tigers. She had a successful indoor season, however, as she competed at the NCAA Championships in both the triple jump and pentathlon. Her previous best effort in the triple jump as a collegiate athlete was in 2008 at the NCAA East Region Championships, where she hit a mark of 43’11.25″.

The U23 European Championships are scheduled for July 16-19 in Kaunas, Lithuania.
