Lindsey Mason Named to Women’s Basketball All-ACC Academic Team

March 4, 2011

GREENSBORO, N.C. – Clemson junior center Lindsey Mason has been selected to the 2010-11 All-ACC Women’s Basketball Academic Team, as announced today by Commissioner John Swofford. This marks the first career honor for Mason, who is a nursing major.

Mason is the first Clemson player to garner the honor since Amanda (White) Frist was selected after the 2005-06 season.

Mason recently completed her third season with the Lady Tigers, and averaged a career-high 6.2 points and 5.2 rebounds for the Lady Tigers, and finished the regular season ranked sixth in the ACC in shot-blocking at 1.5 per game. Mason’s 90 career blocks rank ninth in school history.

ACC Scholar-Athlete of the Year awards were established in September 2007 to be awarded annually to the top junior or senior student-athlete in their respective sports. Candidates for the awards must have maintained a 3.0 grade point average for their career as well as a 3.0 for each of the last two semesters. The award is based 60 percent on academic achievement and 40 percent on athletic accomplishment.

A total of 18 student-athletes from 10 of the league’s 12 schools were named to the All-ACC Women’s Basketball Academic Team. Duke led for the third consecutive year with five selections, followed by NC State and Virginia with three apiece. Boston College, Clemson, Florida State, Maryland, Miami, North Carolina, and Virginia Tech each had one.

Clemson was eliminated from the 2011 ACC Tournament on Thursday night, a 78-64 loss at the hands of North Carolina.
