Let's Dance: Tigers Set for NCAA Championships

CLEMSON, S.C. – The Clemson track & field team is set to compete in 12 events (eight women’s and four men’s) at the 2018 NCAA Track & Field Championships. The meet runs Wednesday through Saturday (June 6-9) and takes place at the University of Oregon’s historic Hayward Field in Eugene, Oregon.

Twenty-four student-athletes qualify for each event with the top-8 (top-2 in each of the three heats, plus next top-2 finishers) advancing to the finals round with the exception of the 5000m and 10,000m runs and field events.

John Lewis (800m), Deron Gordon (400mH), the 4x400m relay team and Jeremiah Green (triple jump) will represent the Tiger men. Lewis opens action for the Tigers Wednesday in the men’s 800m semifinals at 9:14 p.m. (EST), while the Clemson men’s 4x400m relay unit rounds out Wednesday’s action, beginning at 7:48 p.m. Green is set to jump in Friday’s final at 8:40 p.m.

The Tiger women qualified eight entries, which is the most since for the women’s team since 2013. The women’s 4x100m relay is set open events on the track Thursday, beginning at 7:02 p.m. Following the women’s 4x100m relay, seven individual qualifiers will submit their bid for the finals round with Markeeta Thomas and Lakeisha Warner closing out the day in the 400m hurdles, which are slated for 9 p.m.

This year’s national championship marks the 16th occasion the meet has been held at Hayward Field and will be the final NCAA Championship before it undergoes renovations. Hayward Field is set to re-open in 2020 and will host the 2021 and 2022 NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships.
