Lady Tigers To Compete At The 2004 NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships

CLEMSON, SC – The Lady Tiger track and field team will compete at the 2004 NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships on June 9-12. This year’s meet will be held in Austin, TX, at Mike A. Myers Stadium on the campus of the University of Texas at Austin. Five Lady Tigers will make the trip to Austin to compete in three events for Clemson. Jessica Cousins, Randi Hinton, Gisele Oliveira, Christina Smith and Silja Ulfarsdottir will represent Clemson at this year’s meet. The five 2004 qualifiers comprise the largest contingent from Clemson to compete at the national meet since 2001 when the Lady Tigers finished seventh as a team in Eugene, Oregon. That year, six Lady Tigers posted the seventh-place finish (Clemson’s highest-ever finish in outdoor track and field) behind the National Champion 4x400m relay team.

Clemson’s NCAA Outdoor Championships Qualifiers Five Lady Tigers will compete in three events at the 2004 NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships. Jessica Cousins, Randi Hinton, Gisele Oliveira, Christina Smith and Silja Ulfarsdottir will represent Clemson at the meet. Cousins, a freshman from Seneca, SC, will compete as a member of the Lady Tigers’ 4x400m relay team. She owns a season-best time of 55.47 in the 400m dash. Hinton will also compete in the 4x400m relay, running anchor for the Lady Tigers. The junior from Marietta, GA, has a season-best time of 55.55 in the 400m. Oliveira enters the NCAA Championships as the Lady Tigers’ and ACC’s all-time leader in the triple jump. A junior from Porto Alegre, Brazil, Oliveira has a season-best mark of 44’10.75″ in the triple jump. Smith, a freshman from Philadelphia, PA, will run second leg on the Lady Tigers’ 4x400m relay team and will also compete in the 400m hurdles. She has recorded a season-best of 57.09 in the open 400m this season. Smith also has a season-best time of 58.43 in the intermediate hurdles. Ulfarsdottir will also compete in two events for the Lady Tigers. She is an individual qualifier in the 400m hurdles, and will run lead-off on the Lady Tigers’ 4x400m relay team. She owns a season-best time of 57.48 in the intermediate hurdles and a time of 53.70 in the 400m dash.
