The Clemson women’s basketball team will play its second game in three days on Sunday when it plays host to the University of Maryland. The game, designated as a Solid Orange event, is scheduled to tip-off at 2:00 PM from Littlejohn Coliseum.
Clemson committed 35 turnovers in its most recent game, a loss at #6/9 North Carolina. There were a few bright spots for the Lady Tigers, however. Red-shirt freshman Maxienne White had a career-high 12 points and nearly achieved a double-double, finishing with nine rebounds. She was 6-12 from the field.
Also in the loss at UNC, junior guard Julie Talley hit 3-3 from beyond the three-point arc and finished with 15 points. D’Lesha Lloyd also had 15 points for Clemson, in addition to five steals. Tasha Taylor had seven assists and four steals for the Lady Tigers. Juniors Reggie Maddox combined for just one point, however, as Clemson suffered its most lopsided defeat of the 2004-05 season.
For the second consecutive game, Clemson will be facing a ranked ACC opponent. The Maryland Terrapins are 20th in the latest AP poll and 21st in the latest ESPN/USA Today poll. The Terps are 15-5 on the season, 4-4 in ACC play. Maryland defeated the same North Carolina squad that downed Clemson 99-55 earlier this season.
Shay Doron has been an All-ACC caliber player this year for Maryland. The 5-9 sophomore guard is second in the ACC at 19.6 points per game. She also has 51 steals and ranks in the top 10 of the conference in that category and assists per game.
Crystal Langhorne is a top contender for ACC Rookie of the Year. The 6-3 post player is nearly averaging a double-double for Maryland at 16.3 points per game and 9.3 rebounds per game. Her numbers have been even better in conference play.
