CLEMSON, SC – The Clemson women’s basketball team opens a stretch of four of their next five away from home when they travel to Blacksburg, VA and Coral Gables, FL for ACC games this weekend. Clemson (5-14, 1-7 ACC) and Virginia Tech (7-15, 3-6 ACC) tip off at 6:30 pm on Friday, and the Lady Tigers will travel to Coral Gables to take on the No. 7/7 Miami Hurricanes (19-3, 8-1 ACC) on Sunday at 2:00 pm. Both contests will be televised and are available on ESPN3. Friday’s game will appear on regional sports networks, while Sunday’s game is on CSS. Both games will be broadcast on the radio on the Clemson Tiger Sports Network by Roy Philpott and Kanetra Queen. Gametracker is also available at ClemsonTigers.com. Clemson is continuing one of its toughest stretches of the season, playing four of the next five away from Littlejohn. Additionally, Clemson is in the midst of playing four of five games against ranked opponents. Clemson played No. 6 Duke and No. 24 Georgia Tech Friday and Sunday of last week, and will play No. 7 Miami and No. 9/10 Maryland on Feb. 9. The Lady Tigers are 1-0 this season in road games against ranked teams, a 52-47 win against then-No. 21 North Carolina in Chapel Hill, ending a 53-game losing streak against ranked competition. Up first are the Hokies in Blacksburg on Friday night. The Hokies stifled Clemson defensively on Jan. 2 in Littlejohn, downing Clemson by a 55-33 count, the lowest point total scored in Clemson hoops history. Virginia Tech holds a 7-5 advantage in the series overall, and has won four straight in the series. Immediately following Friday’s game, Clemson will board a plane to Miami to arrive shortly after midnight on Saturday morning. The Lady Tigers will practice in Miami, where temperatures are expected to be close to 80 degrees, before tipping off at 2:00 pm on Sunday and flying home after the game. Clemson in 5-4 all-time against Miami, but the Canes won last season in the only meeting, 77-48 in Coral Gables. Clemson had won two in a row in the series prior to that game. The road team has also won five of the last seven when these two get together. After the weekend, Clemson returns home for a 7:00 pm game in Littlejohn against another top-ten team in Maryland on Feb. 9. This game is tabbed as Clemson’s “Play4Kay” game, in which the teams will play tribute to the late Kay Yow, and will support the breast cancer awareness movement.
