Lady Tigers Fall to #18 Georgia in Russell Athletic Shootout

Duluth, GA – Clemson committed 22 turnovers and #18 Georgia scored 32 points off the turnovers to claim an 88-60 victory in the second game of the 2005 Russell Athletic Shootout from the Gwinnett Center. The Lady Bulldogs won their 20th game of the season, while Clemson fell to 7-16 with the loss.

Reggie Maddox tied a career-high with 18 points on 6-11 shooting. Maxienne White set a career-high with 13 points. She added seven rebounds and two steals.

For Georgia, freshman sensation Tasha Humphrey scored 25 points and grabbed 11 rebounds. Sherill Baker added 13 points and seven steals for the Lady Dogs. Cori Chambers scored 22 points and hit 8-12 shots.

In the first half, turnovers got the best of both teams early on. With Georgia hanging onto a 21-19 lead, the Lady Bulldogs put together an 11-0 scoring run to pull out to a double-digit lead. A pair of free throws by Maxienne White ended the run. Georgia quickly responded with a shot down low by Humphrey and fast break layup by Baker. Georgia stretched its lead to as much as 17 points in the first half, before Clemson closed with a 8-3 run to put the score at 44-32 at halftime.

D’Lesha Lloyd led the Lady Tigers with nine points in the half, while Maxienne White each contributed six. Clemson shot relatively well in the half, going 11-25 (.444) from the field. However, Clemson’s defense didn’t keep up, as Georgia scored 20 points off turnovers. The Lady Tigers had 14 in the half, surpassing their total from the most recent game versus Florida State.

Clemson pulled to within nine by the first media timeout. Maddox began to take over offensively for Clemson in the second half. She scored 15 of her points after halftime. The Lady Tigers pulled to within eight at 58-50 before the Lady Dogs put together a 17-6 run. The run put the game out of reach for Clemson, who lost for the 10th consecutive time. Over the last 11 minutes of the game, the Lady Tigers were outscored 30-10.

In earlier action Sunday, Arkansas downed Georgia Tech 71-59 to claim the first of the two games.

The Lady Tigers return to ACC action on Thursday, February 17 to take on #3 Duke at Cameron Indoor Stadium at 7:00 PM.
