Lady Tiger Track & Field Wraps Up Day One at Clemson Opener

Clemson, SC – The women’s track & field team began the 2007-08 indoor season at home in the Clemson Opener on Friday. Several student-athletes competed on day one of the two-day meet, including Krystal Barringer, who qualified for Saturday’s final in both the 60m dash and 60m hurdles.

Ra’Sheena Parker was one of three student-athletes from Clemson to qualify for the 60m finals. Parker had a time of 7.69 and was seventh-fastest in the prelims. Also qualifying in the 60m dash from Clemson were Barringer (7.70) and Kristine Scott (7.79). Barringer’s time was easily a personal best in the short sprint.

Barringer and Polly Hardy both qualified for Saturday’s final in the 60m hurdles. Barringer had the top preliminary time at 8.53 seconds, while Hardy was at 8.58. Both rank among the top five performance leaders in school history in the high hurdles.

Ashley Good and April Sinkler both advanced to the finals of the long jump. Sinkler, a freshman, had a jump of 19’0.75″ in her first-ever collegiate meet. She was runner-up. Good finished sixth with a mark of 18’3″.

Catheryne Porter finished fourth in the weight throw. She had a toss of 51’9.25″ in the preliminary round. Rochelle Kokayko, fourth in school history in the event, was held out of Friday’s competition due to not practicing for much of the week.

The Lady Tigers return to action Saturday for the completion of the indoor opener. The first running event will be the 60m hurdles final. The women’s triple jump and pole vault will get underway at 11:00 AM.
