Lady Tiger Track & Field to Compete in Orange & Purple Classic on Saturday

May 5, 2006

The Clemson women’s track & field team will compete at home in the Orange & Purple Classic on Saturday, May 6. The event will get underway at 12:00 PM with the women’s javelin throw. The first running event will be the 4x100m relay at 1:10.

Clemson has eight regional qualifiers and looks to add to that total this weekend. A trio of runners will try and do so in the 800m. Patrice McMillan, Thea Dix, and Candice Johnson will enter that competition at 3:25 PM on Saturday. Jenny Barton, school record-holder in the 3000m steeplechase, hopes to better her time in that event at 5:25.

Tia Perry will compete in both the 100m hurdles and 400m hurdles for Clemson, the lone competitor for the Lady Tigers in those two events.

In the field events, Clemson will have multiple athletes entered. Krystal Woods has already posted a regional mark in the javelin throw, but she looks to top her personal best of 144’7″. That event will be at noon Saturday. Woods, along with Catheryne Porter, will also compete in the discus throw at 3:30.

A trio of high jumpers will go for Clemson on Saturday at 5:00, including Felicia Hawthorne, and Anni Korhonen. In the triple jump, Michelle Rogers hopes to improve on her regional mark of 40’7.75″ at 5:00. Beth Jordan and Helen Kirkland will compete in the pole vault, which is set for 1:00.

Allison Bradshaw is Clemson’s lone entry in the shot put at 5:15. A pair of throwers, Della Clark and Rochelle Kokayko, have qualified for the East Region Championships. That pair, along with Porter, will compete in the hammer throw at 1:45.
