Earlysville, VA – The Clemson women’s cross country team placed sixth out of 11 teams at the Lou Onesty Invitational on Saturday. The event, held at the same site that will serve as host to the ACC Championships, was won by host Virginia.
Laura Laughlin, a freshman from Aiken, SC, was Clemson’s top individual finisher on Saturday with a 19th-place showing. She completed the 5K course in 18:57.20. That was Clemson’s top time of the year through two meets by any student-athlete on the roster. Sunday Ford, the Lady Tigers’ top finisher last weekend at the Gamecock Invitational, was 30th with a time of 19:24.10.
The third scorer for Clemson on Saturday was Patrice McMillan, who crossed the finish line in 43rd place (19:56.20). Maggie Bernard, another freshman on the squad this season, earned her first scoring effort with a 59th-place showing. She had a time of 20:28. The final scorer for Clemson was Candice Johnson (68th, 20:55).
Also competing for the Lady Tigers on Saturday were Lauren Klas (21:01), Thea Dix (21:31.30), Ashley Vaughn (21:40.90), and Elizabeth Tempel (21:56.00).
The Lady Tigers return to action in two weeks to compete in the Great American Cross Country Festival in Hoover, AL.
