Lady Tiger Cross Country Competes at NCAA Southeast Regional

Louisville, KY – The Clemson women’s cross country team concluded the 2006 season with a 22nd-place finish out of 32 squads at the NCAA Southeast Regional at E.C. “Tom” Sawyer Park. N.C. State won the team title with 61 points, finishing ahead of Duke (70), Virginia Tech (83), Virginia (109), and Wake Forest (164).

Laura Laughlin placed inside the top 100 in a field of 215 runners. The freshman from Aiken, SC was 87th with a time of 22:39.30 at the 6K course. That was an improvement of over 35 seconds in her 6K time from the ACC Championships two weeks ago. Laughlin scored in all seven events this season for Clemson.

Patrice McMillan was the team’s #2 finisher on Saturday with a 115th-place finish. She turned in a time of 23:09.4 at Sawyer Park. Thea Dix (176th) completed the scoring for the Lady Tigers. Brown had a time of 24:05.85, while Dix crossed the finish line in 24:27.05.

Maggie Bernard (24:30.9) and Ashley Vaughn (25:09.6) also competed at regionals for the first time as true freshmen. Their scores did not count toward the team total Saturday.

The indoor track & field season will get underway for the Lady Tigers in Clemson on December 1-2.
