CLEMSON, S.C. – The Clemson women’s basketball team will open its 2003-04 campaign against the South Carolina Gamecocks on Friday, Nov. 21, 2003 at the newly-renovated Littlejohn Coliseum. Tip off is slated for 8:30 PM, following the Clemson men’s game against Gardner-Webb, which begins at 6:00 PM.
Friday’s game marks the second time Clemson and Southe Carolina have met for Clemson’s season opener. Last season, the Gamecocks defeated Clemson in Columbia, 72-58.
The Lady Tigers are 21-7 all-time in season openers, and 13-3 in season openers coached by Jim Davis. In season openers at home, Clemson holds a 9-1 advantage.
The Lady Tigers hold a 29-19 advantage in the series that dates back to the 1975-76 season. In games at Clemson, the Lady Tigers lead 20-4. Jim Davis is 12-7 all-time against South Carolina.
Davis’ team returns four starters and nine letterwinners for its 2003-04 season. Seniors Julie Aderhold, Maggie Slosser and Lakeia Stokes will lead a team that finished tied for fifth in the 2003 ACC Tournament. Aderhold is the team’s leading returning scorer, holding an 8.0 ppg average. Sophomore center and 2003 ACC All-Freshman team member Amanda White returns as the leading rebounder, pulling down 6.1 rpg last season.
The Gamecocks returns two starters and three letterwinners from last year’s 23-8 team that advanced into the second round of the 2003 NCAA Tournament. The team finished fifth in the SEC.
