Koontz Second After Day One at JRF Multi-Event Challenge

Three members of the Clemson men’s track & field team completed day one at the JRF Multi-Event Challenge on Friday. The event, named in honor of former field events coach Jarrett Foster (1973-2006), will span two days. Four of the seven events were held Friday at the Clemson indoor track & field complex.

Ryan Koontz, a senior and former ACC heptathlon champion, stands second after four of the seven events have been completed. He won the high jump with a mark of 6’7.75″ to end the first day with momentum. He also had a solid mark in the shot put, where he finished third among the 17 heptathletes with a personal best toss of 43’10.5″. Koontz has 3,015 points and is trailing only Jangy Addy of Tennessee in the overall standings.

Mike Feathers had a solid point total of 2,710 on Friday, and the red-shirt sophomore stands fifth in the overall rankings after day one of the heptathlon. He posted the fifth-best mark in both the high jump (6’2″) and shot put (40’9″).

Joey O’Rourke, a red-shirt freshman, is seventh after day one of competition. His best effort on Friday came in the 60m dash, where he clocked a time of 7.22 seconds. He ranked sixth out of 17 competitors in that event.
