K.C. Rivers Named Co-ACC Player of the Week with North Carolina’s Ellington

GREENSBORO, NC – Clemson’s K.C. Rivers and North Carolina’s Wayne Ellington were named Co-ACC Players of the Week while Duke’s Kyle Singler was tabbed as the ACC Rookie of the Week.

Rivers averaged 21.0 points and 10.0 rebounds as the 18th-ranked Tigers posted a pair of non-conference home victories last week. The Charlotte, N.C., junior had his second career “double-double” with 18 points and 12 rebounds in a 61-58 win over Purdue Tuesday and a season-high 24 points and eight rebounds in Saturday’s 85-74 victory over South Carolina.

Ellington averaged 20.5 points and 5.5 rebounds as the top-ranked Tar Heels recorded two non-league road wins. The Wynnewood, Pa., sophomore, had 23 points and eight rebounds in a 65-55 win over Ohio State Wednesday night in Columbus and 18 points and three rebounds in Saturday’s 86-77 win at Kentucky. Ellington was 14-of-31 (45.1) from the field in the two games and did not commit a turnover in 32 minutes of playing.

In earning the award for the second-straight week, Singler led seventh-ranked Duke to a 2-0 week with wins over Wisconsin and Davidson. The Medford, Ore., native averaged 13.5 points, 9.0 rebounds and 2.0 assists, while shooting 52.9 percent (9-of-17) from the field for the week. In Tuesday’s 82-58 over 20th-ranked Wisconsin, the 6-8, 220-pound forward had 13 points and six rebounds. In Saturday’s 79-73 win versus Davidson Singler had 14 points, three assists and game-high 12 rebounds.
