WINSTON-SALEM, NC – Clemson’s Julie Coin advanced to the championship singles match at the Omni Hotels/ITA Southeast Regional on Sunday. Coin is scheduled to play the tournament’s top seed in the finals on Monday morning at the Wake Forest Indoor Tennis Center.
Coin, the seventh-seeded player in the tournament, upset the tournament’s number-three seed and North Carolina’s 27th-ranked Marlene Mejia by a score of 6-0, 6-3 in the quarterfinal match. In the semifinal, Coin won a three-set decision (3-6, 6-2, 6-1) over 10th-seeded Nathalie Roels of Kentucky. Coin will take on the tournament’s top seed and the ITA’s eighth-ranked Kate Pinchbeck of North Carolina, on Monday at 8:00 a.m.
Coin will compete in the Omni Hotels/ITA National Indoor Championships on Nov. 7-10 in Dallas, TX as one of the two finalists from the Southeast Regional. The winning doubles team, winning singles player and the singles finalist from each regional tournament advance to play in the ITA Nationals.
