CLEMSON, SC – The Clemson Lady Tigers’ track and field team completed the final day of competition at the 2005 Clemson Opener on Saturday, Dec. 3. Beth Jordan and Michelle Rogers highlighted the Clemson squad’s performance with second-place finishes in the pole vault and triple jump, respectively. In the two-day event, 20 student-athletes achieved provicional or automatic qualifying marks for the NCAA Indoor Championship.
Jenny Barton led the Lady Tigers in the running events with a third-place finish in the 3000m with a time of 10:25.85. In the 60m dash, Sybil “Ope” Sobanjo finished 12th overall with a time of 7.94. In the mile, Lauren Brewer led three Lady Tigers with a ninth-place finish. In the 60m hurdles, Christina Smith finished fourth at 8.79. Clemson had three runners place in the top 15 of 72 participants in the 200m dash. Smith and Caroline Rash pacing the Lady Tigers with a time of 2:24.83, good enough for ninth place. Elizabeth Embler posted a time of 2:29.77 while Ashley Robinson and Jennifer Hooten. Robinson’s time of 11:08.30 ranked eighth in the event while Hooten finished 13th with a time of 11:53.48.
In the field events, Jordan finished runner-up in the pole vault after a clearance of 3.50m/11’5.75″. Rogers was runner-up in the triple jump after posting a mark of 12.34m/40’6″. Anni Korhonen’s mark of 1.65m/5’5″ was good enough for a third-place finish in the high jump, while Katie Farnan cleared a height of 1.55m/5’1″. In the shot put, two Lady Tigers advanced to the finals and placed in the top seven. Della Clark had her second fourth-place finish of the meet with a throw of 13.95m/45’9.25″ and Allison Bradshaw’s 13.48/44’2.75″ mark ranked seventh.
The Lady Tigers return to action on January 13-14 at the Kentucky Invitational.
