Jonathan Byrd And Lucas Glover Fire 70s In NCAA East Regional First Round

Moosic, PA–Jonathan Byrd and Lucas Glover fired one-under-par 70s in the first round leading Clemson to a second place ranking after 18 holes of the NCAA East Regional at Glenmaura Natoinal Golf Club in Moosic, PA. The first round was suspended on Thursday due to inclement weather and play finished on Friday.

Byrd shot a consistent 35-35 for his nine-hole scores, while Glover shot a 37 on his first nine, then came back with a sparkling 33 in his second nine of the day. Both Clemson players rank in a tie for fifth place.

Carl Pettersson of NC State, James Driscoll of Virginia, Matt Borchert of North Florida and Michael Morrison of Georgia, are tied for first individually at 69.

Clemson shot a team score of 292 for the first round, seven over par for the par 71 course that is 6847 in length. East Tennessee State has a one-shot lead over Clemson, while Mississippi State and Virginia are tied for third at 293. NC State and Wake Forest are tied for fifth at 294. Georgia Tech, ranked number-one in the nation, is tied for 10th with North Florida at 297. ACC member school North Carolina is 13th at 301 and South Carolina is tied for 20th at 306.

The top 11 teams at the 54-hole event advance to the NCAA finals at Auburn May 30 to June 2.

Clemson’s other three golfers struggled in the first round. Jani Saari and John Engler shot 76, while D.J. Trahan shot an 87.
