Jenny Barton Named to ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District Team for Women’s Track & Field

June 1, 2006

Clemson women’s track & field athlete Jenny Barton was named to ESPN The Magazine’s Academic All-District team on Thursday. Barton was a first-team selection by members of CoSIDA (College Sports Information Directors of America), thus making her eligible for Academic All-America honors. CoSIDA will announce the Academic All-America team selections for women’s track & field on Thursday, June 22.

This is the second straight year Barton has been honored by CoSIDA for her academic efforts. Last season, the Toledo, OH native was a second-team Academic All-District selection. Clemson is in District III, made up of universities from the states of Florida, Georgia, North Carolina, South Carolina, and Virginia.

Barton, who graduated summa cum laude from Clemson with a degree in biological sciences on May 12, was also an All-ACC Academic selection for her cross country efforts in the fall. Barton was a two-time all-state performer in cross country and won the Gamecock Invitational in 2005. She also earned ACC Performer of the Week honors in cross country this past fall. Barton is also the school’s record-holder in the 3000m steeplechase with a time of 10:59.98.
