Jackson Byrd Makes Cut at Myrtle Beach Classic

CLEMSON, S.C. — Future Clemson freshman Jackson Byrd made the cut at the Myrtle Beach Classic on the PGA Tour on Friday. The native of Sea Island, Ga. will enter Clemson in August and be a member of the Tiger team coached by his uncle, Jordan Byrd, in 2025-26.

Byrd is the first Clemson golfer to make the cut at a PGA Tour event before entering his first year at Clemson. Only three Clemson golfers, Chris Patton, Doc Redman and Bryson Nimmer, have made the cut at a PGA Tour event while a student at Clemson.

Byrd is in 46th place after 36 holes at 139, just seven shots off the lead held by Mackenzie Hughes and Cristobal Del Solar and just four shots off the top 10.

Byrd had a one-under-par 70 on Friday after scoring a two-under par 69 on Thursday to make the cut at three-under par 139 for his 36 holes. He had six birdies, just three bogeys and 27 pars for the first two rounds. He averaged 326.6 yards per drive over the first two rounds, fifth in the field of the 132-players. He was also tied for second in greens in relation at 80.56 percent.

Byrd got off to a great start on Friday with a birdie on the first hole when he hit his second shot to just two feet from the hole. He also birdied the fourth hole for the second straight day. He made a bogey on the seventh hole, a birdie on 15 and a bogey on 18 to close his round.

It didn’t take Byrd long to get his first round in the 60s on the PGA Tour, as he shot a 69 on Thursday, a round that included three birdies and a bogey. His highlight shot on Thursday was making a birdie putt from 39 feet and six inches on the eighth hole, his 17th hole of the day.

Jackson Byrd is the son of former Clemson All-American Jonathan Byrd. Jonathan is also playing in the tournament and missed the cut by just one shot.

Former Clemson golfer Carson Young its also in the field in Myrtle Beach and had second round 66 to move into the top 15 after two rounds with a six-under-par score of 136.
