Itay Magidi highlighted an outstanding effort Saturday for the Clemson men’s track & field team at the Meyo Invitational in South Bend, IN. Magidi broke the school record in the 3000m, which had been held by Yehezkel Halifa since the 1988 season.
Magidi ran one of the best times in the country this season at 7:54.11 and finished third. He was just .11 seconds off an automatic NCAA qualifying mark. Magidi was edged by a pair of student-athletes from Wisconsin, including Stuart Eagon who came in at 7:54.09.
Matt Clark also performed well in the 3000m event, finishing with the 13th-fastest time out of 56 competitors. The red-shirt junior from Hyannis, MA completed the event in 8:04.20, which is also an NCAA provisional qualifying mark. Clark’s time ranks fourth in school history in the 3000m run.
Also on Saturday, senior Jason Bell was fifth in the triple jump with a mark of 49’5″.
