Hoang in 13th Place after Opening 73

Clemson, S.C.—Jessica Hoang shot a one-over-par 73 to lead Clemson during the first round of the Lady Puerto Rico Classic at the Rio Mar River Course near San Juan, Puerto Rico on Sunday.  Clemson is in 15th place after the first round.  The 15 teams who are mostly from the ACC, SEC and Big 12 will play the second round on Monday and the final round on Tuesday.

Clemson had a team score of 319, 31-over-par on the challenging par 72 course that is 6,191 yards in length. It is the first round of the spring season for the Clemson women.   Clemson’s men’s team will open its spring season at the same course next week.

Hoang, who had the second best stroke average for the fall, had a strong day with three birdies and four bogeys.  She shot a one under par 35 on the back and stands in 13th place individually. 

Lauren Salazar, Clemson’s top player in the fall with a 74.58 stroke average, had a five-over-par on Sunday that included a one-over-par 37 on the back nine.  She had two bogeys and a birdie on the back.   

Freshman Marisa Messana had an opening round 81, McKenzie Talbert had an 88 and freshman Riley Lovorn shot an 89.
