Hester Adds Two South Carolina State Champions

Clemson, S.C.—South Carolina State Champions Isabella Rawl and Sydney Roberts have signed national letters of intent with the Clemson women’s golf program.   Head Coach Kelley Hester made the announcement on Wednesday, the first-day student-athletes can sign letters of intent.

Rawl won the 5A State Championship and was the Region Player of the Year for Lexington High School, while Roberts took the 3A State Championship, one of her seven individual victories this year.

“Both Isabella and Sydney are among the top players in the state and can compete with anyone in the US as well,”  said Hester. “Both are fresh off of winning their respective high school state championships.

“Isabella is a born and bred Clemson fan who has been verbally committed for a long time and has been a mainstay on the South Carolina Junior circuit.

“Sydney has been a rapid riser who jumped on our radar a little late, but has national experience and could also make an immediate impact. I’m extremely proud that we have two South Carolina girls who will help us continue to build our young program as it will enter it’s 10th season in 2022-23.

Rawl is a two-time 5A State Champion, as she also won the tournament as a freshman.  She posted 11 tournament wins in her career and finished with a 70.8 career scoring average.    She also had a top 5 finish at the Beth Daniel Junior Azalea and a third place at the High School Golf National Invitational this year.

As a junior, Rawl won the Beth Daniel Junior Azalea, finished second at the CGA Vicki Disantis Championship and third at the WSCGA State Amateur.   Nationally, she had a top 10 at the AJGA Girls Championship and finished sixth at the AJGA Junior at Oldfield.  Rawl sat out her sophomore year due to injury.  As a freshman she was the 5A Player of the Year.

Her Lexington High School team won the 5A State Championship in her freshman and junior seasons and finished fourth her senior year.

Roberts’s Chesnee High School team won the 3A State Championship this past season and was the state runner-up her junior and sophomore seasons.

She was named the 3A Player of the Year and the Region Player of the Year this past season.   A first-team all-state selection, Roberts won seven high school tournaments her senior year and 17 tournaments in her career.   She posted a stroke average of 69.1 as a senior and had a low round of 62, also a school record.  This past summer she finished tied for 29th in stroke play at the US Junior Girls Championship and advanced to match play.

As a high school junior, Roberts won five tournaments and finished second at the 3A State Championship. She was named the Upstate Golfer of the Year and the South Carolina 2A Player of the Year.   Overall, she finished in the top four at the State 3A Tournament all four years of her high school career.
