The Hero of the Game for the football game against South Carolina State was Jerry Greene. Jerry Greene found himself in Vietnam ten months after graduating in 1969 and joining the army. One year later Greene became the officer in charge during an attack of enemy ground forces and was wounded in the attack. He courageously remained in his position while wounded and was able to defend his men and their position. He was awareded the Broze Star and Purple Heart for his heroism. Over his 22 year career his awards included Legion of Merit, three Bronze Stars, two Purple Hearts, and multiple other awards. Clemson Athletics thanks Jerry Greene for his outstanding service to our country.
