Henson To Lead U.S. Wrestlers In Iran

Former Clemson wrestler Sam Henson is one of several U.S. men’s freestyle wrestlers competing at the 2004 Takhti Cup in Tehran, Iran, Feb. 19-20. The 2000 Olympic silver medalist and 1998 World champion (West Point, N.Y./Sunkist Kids) will compete at 55 kg/121 lbs. Henson is a popular athlete in Iran, having won his World gold medal when the 1998 World Championships were held in Tehran, Iran.

The Takhti Cup will serve as Henson’s first competition since he won the Dave Schultz Memorial International in 2003. He is currently an assistant coach at the U.S. Military Academy in West Point, N.Y.

Henson is a two-time NCAA national champion (1993,1994) who compiled a 71-0 record at Clemson. He was inducted into the Clemson Athletic Hall of Fame in 2000.
