Greg Buckner on Minnesota Timberwolves Roster

Former Clemson basketball great Greg Buckner is one of 15 players on the roster for the Minnesota Timberwolves this season. It marks the fourth NBA franchise Buckner has been affiliated with in his nine seasons in the league. The Timberwolves open the 2007-08 season Friday, November 2 at home against one of his former teams, the Denver Nuggets.

He was traded from Dallas to Minnesota on September 28, 2007 after helping the Mavericks to the best record in the NBA last season. Buckner averaged 4.0 points and 2.1 rebounds in 76 games played last season for Avery Johnson’s squad. For his career, he has averaged 5.5 points per contest and played in 476 career games.

Buckner’s career in the NBA began in 1999-2000 with Dallas, the team that drafted him in the second round of the 1998 draft. He played his first three seasons in the NBA with Dallas, and then played in Philadelphia from 2002-04. His third stop came in Denver, where he played with the Nuggets from 2004-06.

A standout player at Clemson, Buckner concluded his career ranked fourth in school history in points scored. He was a two-time second-team All-ACC selection (1997,98) and the first and only player in school history to be named ACC Rookie-of-the-Year. He was inducted into the Tigers’ Athletic Hall of Fame in 2005.
