Green Concludes Historic Season at NCAAs Friday

EUGENE, Ore. – Clemson senior triple jumper Jeremiah Green wrapped up his collegiate career Friday at the 2018 NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships. After his one and only season at Clemson, the Alabama transfer posted arguably the best season in Tiger history, setting triple jump program records both indoors (16.39m) and outdoors (16.06). Green finished 17th overall Friday out of flight No. 2 with a best mark of 15.71m.

“I wish it had ended better for Jeremiah,” said Clemson head coach Mark Elliott. “We knew how good he was – that’s one of the reasons why he’s here. He broke all of the records and that’s definitely something great that he achieved while he was here. I’m happy for him – for what he did. But I’m sure deep down, knowing Jeremiah, he wanted to do a lot better. But it was a great year for him at Clemson and he put us back on the map as it relates to the triple jump on the national level.”

With his finish in the triple jump, Green rounds out the men’s 2018-19 season.

“We definitely improved as a team and with regards to representation at the national level. We had a few All-Americans in the group. Our goal now is to get these guys ready to be able to compete on the final day and score some points for us. You have to look at the bright side – most of them will be back next year. With a few tweaks and good signings incoming this year, we should look for bigger and better things tomorrow.”

Senior Grace Barnett will compete in the Tigers’ final event of the season in the women’s 1500m finals, which is set for 6:41 p.m. (ET). ESPN picks up coverage of Saturday’s finals event beginning at 6:30 p.m. To stream Saturday’s coverage via watchespn.com, click here.
