Glover and Trahan Begin Play in British Open on Thursday

Clemson, SC – Lucas Glover and D.J. Trahan, teammates on the Clemson golf team in the springs of 2000 and 2001, will both compete in the 2009 British Open. The third Major on the professional golf schedule will be played this weekend at Turnberry in Ayrshire, Scotland, a par 70 course that is 7,204 yards in length.

Glover will be making his first appearance in a Major since winning the United States Open in June. However he has not taken a week off and this will be his fifth straight week of play. He finished 11th at the Travelers and fifth at the AT&T National near Washington, DC over the July 4 weekend. He has made 11 cuts in his last 12 events and has won $3,020,481, the most money earned in a complete year by a former Clemson golfer on the PGA Tour.

Glover is making his fourth appearance in the British Open. His best finish is a tie for 27th in 2007 at Carnoustie. He finished tied for 78th last year. So far this year he is eighth on the PGA Tour money list, seventh in the Fed X Cup standings and 19th in the overall World Rankings. He is first on the PGA Tour in total driving and third in total birdies made with 271.

Trahan will be making his first appearance in the British Open. He is currently eighth on the PGA Tour in greens in regulation and is fourth in par five scoring average at 4.57. So far this year he is 66th on the PGA Tour money list wih $856,628.

Trahan will be paired with Prayad Marksaeng and Markus Brier in the first two rounds. Trahan’s group begins play at 5:04 AM Eastern time on Thursday and 10:15 on Friday. Glover will be paired with Ernie Els and Martin Kaymer. They will begin play at 7:58 Eastern time on Thursday and 2:47 AM on Friday.

Two other former Clemson All-Americans will be playing on the PGA Tour this weekend at the United States Bank Open in Milwaukee, WI. Charles Warren, ranked fourth on the PGA Tour in greens in regulation, will be in the field. Kyle Stanley, an All-American at Clemson this past season, will make his third start as a professional in Milwaukee. Stanley has made the cut in each of his first two starts and has won $97,488. He also made the cut at the US Open and finished 53rd, but he played that event as an amateur.
