Gerald Glenn, a 1964 Clemson alumnus and former executive of international engineering firms, along with his wife Candice, recently pledged the ninth Cornerstone Gift to athletics. Their $2.5 million unrestricted gift will benefit student-athletes of all 19 intercollegiate sports through new and upgraded athletics facilities, student development operations and academic programs.
“This generous donation by Gerald and Candi Glenn and their family provides valuable resources to Clemson athletics and our mission of providing first-class experiences to each of our student-athletes throughout their academic and athletic careers,” Clemson President James P. Clements said. “The Glenns history of support of Clemson is remarkable, and their philanthropy will benefit Clemson students for generations.”
The Clemson Athletic Cornerstone Program is a vital part of the new athletics facilities initiative. With new facilities, upgrades and rebuilds planned for or under way at football, basketball, baseball, tennis, soccer and academic support, it is the most comprehensive change to the facilities of athletics ever undertaken at Clemson.
Gerald graduated from Clemson in 1964 with a Bachelor of Science degree in civil engineering and went on to become chairman, president and CEO of Chicago Bridge and Iron, one of the world’s largest construction companies. Prior to that, he was a Director of Fluor Corporation and a group president of its primary subsidiary – Fluor Daniel Incorporated.
The Glenns have made giving back a priority. In addition to lifetime giving at Clemson exceeding $8 million, Gerald currently serves as a member of the President’s Advisory Board and as chair of the CUF Board Development Committee. They have been active contributors to Clemson programs ranging from the College of Engineering, Computing, and Applied Sciences Leadership Circle, and the Fluor Daniel Engineering Innovation Center, the Barker Scholars Endowment and IPTAY.
The Glenns live in The Woodlands, Texas and have three children. Mike graduated from Clemson in 2016 and is in his second year at the University of California Irvine School of Law. Charlie is a senior at Clemson majoring in civil engineering and engaged to Bethany Bolen, a senior at Clemson majoring in nursing. Gina, resides in Greenville and is Vice President of Homes and Land magazine franchises.
