Future Clemson Golfer Ashlan Ramsey to Play in Kraft Nabisco Championship

CLEMSON, SC – Future Clemson women’s golfer Ashlan Ramsey has been invited to play in the 2013 Kraft Nabisco Championship on the LPGA Tour. The tournament will take place April 4-7 and is considered one of the Majors on the LPGA Tour. She was one of nine amateurs from around the world to receive and invitation this week.

The Kraft Nabisco, which has been considered a Major since 1983, will take place at the Dinah Shore Tournament Course at Mission Hills Country Club in Rancho Mirage, CA.

“This is an amazing opportunity for Ashlan and her family,” said Clemson Head Coach J.T. Horton. “She has played as well as anyone the past seven or eight months and is extremely deserving of this invitation. I know she is very excited to play in her first LPGA tour event, and the Kraft Nabisco is one of the best!”

Ramsey, who will enroll at Clemson in August and join her sister Taylor on the Lady Tigers team, has won three tournaments in the last year and was ranked fourth among the top 10 Junior Golfers by Golfweek in 2012. She gained victory in 2012 at the Sea Pines Junior Heritage, the Georgia Junior PGA and the Joe Cheves Junior Invitational.

The native of Milledgeville, GA made national news last summer when she reached the championship match of the US Public Links. She also reached the round of 16 of the US Junior Girls Tournament and the final 32 of the US Women’s Amateur. She has been named a first-team Rolex All-American each of the last two years, and has a #57 World Amateur Ranking. The senior, who attends Milledge Academy, was the 2012 Georgia State Golf Association Girls Player of the Year in 2012 and was co-recipient of that award in 2011.

Ramsey has played well in 2013 as well, as she already has a fourth place finish at the Harder Hall Invitational, a fifth place finish at SALLY, and reached the semifinals of the Jones-Doherty Amateur.

“Providing the future stars of women’s golf the chance to play alongside their professional heroes in the first major championship of the year has always been a point of pride for the Kraft Nabisco Championship,” said David Blake-Thomas, Executive Director and Chairman, Kraft Nabisco Championship. “We are proud to be able to provide these great young players from around the world with this important step in their careers, and look forward to joining golf fans in cheering them on.”
