Four Tigers Qualify for NCAA Finals

March 9, 2011

CLEMSON, S.C.–When the list of qualifiers for the 2011 NCAA Men’s Swimming Championships was released on Wednesday, a foursome of Clemson Tigers was on the list.

Juniors Seth Broster, Chris Dart, and Chris Reinke, along with sophomore Eric Bruck, all posted qualifying times in multiple events. Clemson was third among Atlantic Coast Conference teams in qualifiers, behind only Virginia (10) and North Carolina (8).

“I am proud of these men,” Head Coach Christopher Ip said. “Under the circumstances of their team’s phase-out, no home facility, and lack of training facilities, their goal of honoring the swim program and representing Clemson University at nationals has never wavered. They have exceeded my expectations and the crazy thing is, I don’t think these guys are finished yet.”

Dart will participate in three events: the 100 backstroke, 200 backstroke, and 200 individual medley. Bruck qualified in the 50 freestyle and 100 freestyle, while Reinke will be participating in the 200 freestyle. Broster will be swimming in the 100 butterfly.

The foursome qualified to participate in the 400 freestyle relay, the first relay team to qualify for the NCAA meet from Clemson since 1989. They will also race in the 200 freestyle relay.

The NCAA Championships will be held from March 17-19 in St. Paul, MN.
