Clemson, SC – Four Tigers Earn First-team All-ACC Honors D.J. Trahan, Jack Ferguson, Matt Hendrix, and Gregg Jones, 80 percent of Clemson’s starting lineup, were all named to the All-ACC golf team on Tuesday. It marked just the second time in school history that four Tigers were named to the first-team. The 2000 season is the only other year it has happened.

Additionally, Clemson head coach Larry Penley was named ACC Coach of the Year. It marked the fifth time in Penley’s career that he has been selected.

The Tigers will next be in action on Thursday and Friday when they take part in the Atlanta Intercollegiate in Stockbridge, GA.

For Trahan, it marked the fourth time in his career that he had been named first-team All-ACC. He joins Jonathan Byrd as the only golfers in school history to be named first-team All-ACC four times. Trahan currently has a 70.55 stroke average for the season, second best in the nation.

Ferguson is second on the team in stroke average with a 71.28 figure. His eight-foot putt on the last hole won the ACC Tournament for the Tigers in April. The sophomore from Seneca, SC has six top 10 finishes, second best on the Clemson team behind Trahan’s eight top 10s.

Matt Hendrix has a 71.62 stroke average for the season, third best on the Clemson team. The junior is ranked 14th in the nation in the national singles rankings computed by Golfweek/Sagarin. Hendrix has four top 10 finishes this season and has 13 rounds under par, second best on the Clemson team.

Jones, a second-team All-American last year, has a 72.69 stroke average for the year. It is the second straight year Jones has been named, as he joined Trahan on the team last year.

Penley was also named the ACC Coach of the Year in 1987, 1996, 1997 and 1998. He has led the Tigers to four tournament titles this year, including the ACC Championship. He now has 52 career tournament victories and 52 other tournaments in which his Tigers have finished in the runnerup spot.
