Five Tigers Named to All-ACC Academic Team for Indoor Track & Field

CLEMSON, SC – Five members of Clemson’s track & field program – three men and two women – were named to the All-ACC Academic Indoor Team this week. The conference office made the announcement earlier in the week. Daniel Dey, Martin Maloney and Ty McCormack were honored from the Tiger men’s team, while All-ACC pole vaulter Lauren Terstappen and classmate Christy Gasparino received honors among the Clemson women.

Terstappen won the bronze medal at the ACC Indoor Championships after clearing 13’0.25″ in the pole vault. A health science major, she was named to the All-ACC Academic Indoor Team in 2011 as well. Gasparino, also a pole vaulter and junior, added her second career honor after receiving the award in 2012. She is also a health science major.

McCormack was a scorer in two events at the ACC Indoor Championships, finishing sixth in the 3K and eighth in the 5K. He previously was All-ACC Academic for outdoor track & field, but this was his first indoor accolade. McCormack is on schedule to graduate in May, less than three years after enrolling in language & international trade.

It was Maloney’s second career honor, as he earned All-ACC Academic status in 2012. Maloney, who was 11th at the ACC Championships in the mile, graduated last August with a degree in sociology. Daniel Dey, who primarily ran the 800 meters during indoor season, earned the honor for the first time as a freshman engineering major.
