Easton Tabbed ACC Freshman of the Week

GREENSBORO, N.C. – Clemson setter Gabby Easton has been named the ACC Freshman of the Week for matches played Oct. 15-21, the conference office announced Monday. The honor is Easton’s first of her career and third weekly freshman honor for Clemson this season.

Easton, who leads the ACC in assists (952), totaled 89 assists in seven sets played at Miami and Florida State this past weekend. In the Tigers’ first win at Miami since 2009, Easton dimed 49 assists in just three sets. Her 49-assist performance is tied for the third most in a three-set match in the Division I ranks this season. The Anderson, South Carolina native facilitated a Clemson offense that hit .355 against the Hurricanes, which is the second-best hitting performance by the Tigers against an ACC opponent this season. Easton then tallied 40 assists in a closely contested four-set match at FSU on Sunday, and chipped in two service aces and 2.0 blocks.

Easton currently ranks second in the ACC in assists per set (10.94), which is also good for fifth in the nation among all freshmen. Her performance at Miami nearly eclipsed her mark of 51 assists in the Tigers’ sweep over Davidson to win the Appalachian Invitational on Sept. 1. Her 51-assist match against the Wildcats remains tied for the No. 1 assist performance in the nation this season among three-set matches.

Clemson returns to Jervey Gym this weekend for the first time since the Tigers’ sweep over Virginia Tech on Oct. 7. Clemson plays host to NC State Friday, Oct. 26 at 7 p.m., for the Tigers’ annual ‘Dig Pink’ match in conjunction with The Sideout Foundation. Clemson then squares off against North Carolina Sunday, Oct. 28 at 1 p.m. Both upcoming contests are set to stream on ACC Network Extra.
