GREENSBORO, N.C. – Clemson setter Gabby Easton has been named the ACC Freshman of the Week for the second consecutive week, the conference office announced Monday. The honor is Easton’s second of her career and fourth weekly freshman honor for Clemson this season.
Easton, who leads the ACC in assists (1,035), totaled 83 assists to average 11.85 dimes per set in the Tigers’ wins over NC State and North Carolina this past weekend. In Clemson’s first win against the Wolfpack since 2011, Easton dished out 43 assists in four sets played. The Anderson, South Carolina native also chipped in seven kills on 10 attacks and 3.0 blocks, including a block solo, service ace and six digs against NC State. Easton then guided the Tigers to their first win over North Carolina since 2009 on Sunday in a sweep over the Tar Heels. The freshman tallied 40 assists with 4.0 blocks and notched the second set-winning kill after the Tigers trailed 24-20 and rallied back to win set No. 2, 29-27.
Easton currently ranks second in the ACC in assists per set (10.95), which is also good fourth in the nation among all freshmen.
Clemson returns to Jervey Gym this Friday, Nov. 2 as the Tigers host Virginia at 7 p.m., and No. 10 Pittsburgh on Sunday at 1 p.m. Both matches are set to stream on ACC Network Extra. Friday’s contest against the Cavaliers serves as the annual IPTAY Day match and Alumni Weekend (Nov. 2-3).
