Duke Defeats Clemson 5-2

DURHAM, N.C. -­ The #20 Duke Blue Devils defeated Clemson in a men’s Atlantic Coast Conference tennis match at Durham, NC Sunday afternoon.

The Blue Devils improve to 14-6 on the year and 7-1 in the ACC while Clemson drops to 17-7 overall and 3-6 in league play. The Tigers are ranked 40th according to the latest ITA poll.

Clemson claimed victories in the middle positions as Kevin Galloway defeated Duke’s Torsten Wietoska 6-7, 7-6, 1-0 at number three singles. The Tigers’ Gera Boryachinskiy was an upset winner over 87th-ranked Dylan Arnould 6-4, 6-3.

“We had a tough loss today to a very good Duke team today,” said Clemson Head Coach Chuck McCuen. “They have been playing very well and the credit goes to them. I was very impressed by the play and effort of Kevin Galloway and Gera Boryachinskiy today. Both had to fight extremely hard to come away with Clemson’s only points. We will get right back to work on Tuesday with VT and Virginia in our sights at home”

At number one singles today, #11 Henrique Cunha of Duke defeated Derek DiFazio 6-3, 6-3. Duke also won at number two, five, and six singles.

Clemson will play host to Virginia Tech on Friday, April 16, and Virginia on Sunday, April 18 in ACC action. This will be the final matches before the ACC Tournament in Cary, NC on April 22-25.
