Don Munson Named Director of Creative Media Services for Clemson Athletics

Don Munson has been named Director of Creative Media Services for the Clemson Athletic Department. Munson will have department wide responsibilities, with an emphasis on football.

The Appalachian State graduate will supervise the Clemson football recruiting website and social media sites, provides video features for clemsontigers.com, authors articles for various Clemson publications and websites, and continue to serve as the Master of Ceremonies for the Prowl and Growl meetings in the Spring. He will also continue to serve as the host of the Clemson football and basketball coaches radio call in program, “Tiger Calls,” and provide play by play commentary on various Clemson Olympic sports.

Munson is a familiar name to Clemson fans because of his involvement with the Clemson radio network for the last 16 years. He has covered Clemson athletics since 1994, when he first joined the network as the network’s football pre-game, halftime and 5th Quarter host. In 1995, he moved into a full time position with the Clemson Sports Network as an on-air host and affiliate relations manager. In 1997, he was named Operations Manager and became part of the basketball broadcasts as a pre-game, halftime, and locker room reporter.

When the network changed hands in 2000, Munson became the producer, writer and co-host of Inside Clemson Tiger Sports a 30-minute television show that focused on Clemson football. The show ran during the 2000 and 2001 seasons.

In 2003, Munson rejoined the radio network as host of the Tiger Tailgate Show and 5th Quarter Show. When Jim Phillips passed away in September of 2003, Munson assumed the duties as host of Tiger Calls, play-by-play for women’s basketball and baseball.

Munson is a 1984 graduate of Appalachian State University with a BS in Communications. He was the play-by-play voice at Appalachian State from 1984-1991. In 1993 he served a season as the play-by-play voice of Western Carolina University and in 1994 was the voice of the UNC Asheville men’s basketball broadcasts.

Married on May 26, 1984,Munson and his wife Elizabeth have one child, Michelle, who turns 19 in August.
