Diving Finishes Atop ACC in the Classroom

The Clemson women’s diving team set the standard for excellence academically in the Atlantic Coast Conference during the fall 2012 semester. The Tigers tied for 42nd nationally among swimming and diving programs with a team grade-point-average of 3.34. Vanderbilt, Xavier, Purdue, and Utah share the spot in the rankings with Clemson.

“With the addition of six newcomers to our program, I am extremely proud of how well our underclassmen quickly learned how to balance the rigors of academics paired with athletics,” Head Coach Leslie Hasselbach Adams said. “The other half of our team is upperclassmen, and they serve as tremendous role models for our underclassmen. The upperclassmen set the tone right away as to what it means to be a student-athlete at Clemson and a member of the diving program. The academic foundation that has been laid speaks volumes for the future of our program.”

The Tigers were ranked highest in the ACC in GPA during the fall, with their closest competition being Virginia Tech. The Hokies tied for 71st with a team GPA of 3.27.

Clemson will send several divers to compete in the NCAA Zone Diving Championships in Knoxville, TN, which will begin on Monday, March 11.
